Mulkeytown is a small community located in Franklin County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Mulkeytown was 191 people. The area was settled in the 1800s by families seeking to farm land in the fertile Little Muddy River bottoms.
Initially, Mulkeytown was named "Little Muddy" after the river that flowed through the area. However, after the establishment of a post office in 1865, the postmaster, Hull B. Mulkey, succeeded in having the community named after himself.
Today, Mulkeytown is known for its scenic beauty, rich historical heritage, and outdoor recreational opportunities. The area offers great opportunities for hunting, fishing, camping and hiking, with several nearby state parks and natural areas.
